From Strength to Strength (and Conditioning): the Academy’s Most Recent Workshop Proves Successful Yet Again

Last Wednesday, players and parents from Worksop Town Academy were invited to an interactive workshop at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium. The session took place indoors and was carried out by Academy Sports Scientist and Strength and Conditioning Coach Sean Sage.

Academy Coach Craig Spink was in attendance, and stressed the importance of these sessions for young players looking to improve without setbacks. “It was great to see Sean come in and discuss strength and conditioning with the players and parents,” Spink said, “A very professional presentation for players and parents to learn.” The session itself ran for around 90 minutes, and included elements of participation for parents, coaches and players alike, with activities and information designed to develop and build knowledge on not just strength and conditioning exercises, but also nutritional advice, as well as broader lifestyle planning necessary to take player performance to the highest possible level, maximising player potential and growth.

“It is vital that players and parents learn all about improving physical performance,” Spink said, “as well as [learning about] injury prevention.” This is a sentiment that perhaps resonates the most within player development programmes such as the Academy, as development and improvement can be hampered or even halted by injury if the proper precautions are not taken into consideration.

This workshop is but one of a multitude of programmes, sessions, and classes that have taken place at the Academy this season, and there are plenty more to come in the future, as the Academy programme continues to benefit from the high-quality coaching and facilities in order to offer the best possible development programmes for the young players that represent it. “[Sean’s workshop] is just another addition to the Academy programme,” Spink said, “And it’s all just another step towards what we are trying to get players to achieve.”
