Adult League Champions Hungry to Defend their Title in Season 2

The first Adult League champions have been officially crowned, with NIC taking home the glory after a brilliant display that saw them go unbeaten over 22 games. With a new season around the corner, I spoke to NIC captain Igor Mlynarsky for a breakdown of the story from on the pitch.

“We set the team up as a laugh – all of us are mates so we didn’t take it too seriously in the beginning,” Mlynarsky began, “having 10 players helped a lot, giving us the numbers to show up when we had anyone missing.” Their furious dominance in the league saw some impressive results, ending the season with a goal difference of 83 and winning all but one game, a 5-5 goal frenzy against another late entry in the league, Sheshfield United. NIC’s own late entry saw them in a fair few double headers in order to catch up to the top teams, and their consistency left other teams in awe. “We’re looking forward to [the second season] a lot, and hopefully we can keep the unbeaten run going for another season. We had to play 2 games a night to catch up, so hopefully it’ll make it a bit easier for us this time around.” Mlynarsky said – a challenge to other teams who will be joining the new season.

Adult League’s second run sees the introduction of multi-divisional play, raising the stakes and increasing the competition, with the risk of relegation and the prize of promotion now firmly on the line. This didn’t seem to bother the NIC captain, who said “we’re pretty confident I think, there’s a few decent teams joining but hopefully the unbeaten run won’t end anytime soon.” With the Six-A-Side Cup taking place and new faces entering the League, only time will tell if a challenger will rise up to compete for the top spot.  “I’d like to say ‘good luck’ to any teams joining [laughs]” Mlynarsky said, “and I’m really looking forward to playing everyone returning again!”.

The Adult League restarts this evening (Monday 9th May), and spaces are still available for outfits to register and take on NIC alongside all of our other returning teams. There’s everything to play for, so why not get involved?
